hey fred, long time no talk. Sorry its taken me like 3 months to reply. I have been busy and now i'm not. so here we go. a Amin and a Bmin would be a 2 and a 3 in the key of G. to me that is easier than to remember family names that other people that i am playing with would have no idea to what i am talking about, but most will understand if you tell them to play a 2 and a 3 in whatever key that you want to play in. Sorry I'm not trying to be harsh, that is just my take on it and if you can show me something better i am all ears. I do still use spiral mapping though, i do find the value in it, but i also try to be aware of where my root is so i know what chords a minor, major, diminished, etc.
thanks
